Torvehallerne

Marketplaces all over the world radiate a very special atmosphere. They are not only places of trade and sales, but also scenes where people celebrate seeing and being seen in the most sociable way and proudly praise the display of their own goods. With seasonal vegetables and fruit, regional delicacies, home-grown produce, locally brewed, lovingly preserved and freshly baked goods, attention is being courted from stall to stall. The most wonderful aromas surround the treasures on offer and draw the mostly strolling market visitors from one land of milk and honey to the next.

The Torvehallerne is just such a place for Copenhageners. In two elongated halls connected by an uncovered open-air market full of flowers and fruits, not only exquisite goods from sea and land are offered in a clean and nicely decorated manner, but also prepared and cooked. Everything looks wonderfully tempting and smells accordingly, making it particularly difficult to decide for one or against the other. So it's best to let yourself drift, follow your nose and believe your eyes. And if that's not enough: just try it.

Let‘s start, for example, with one of the countless variations of the Smørrebrød, which open up completely undreamed-of worlds of bread to every non-Danish visitor. Or one of the filling porridge or salad creations, which are a wonderful way to start the day. For all sugar lovers, there are the finest cakes and literally excellent chocolate specialities. And if the inclined market-goer is more drawn to the savoury worlds, hearty fish cakes and tasty dishes will tempt them with their warming aromas.

The liquid delights are in no way inferior: from local beers to regional gins, selected wines, freshly squeezed juices and the best coffees, the Torvehallerne also fulfils these wishes.

And since nobody wants to enjoy neither with a dry palate nor alone, Copenhageners like to sit together there at one of the many stalls, tables and benches, talking long and laughing a lot. It's almost a pity that all the food becomes a minor (albeit beautiful) matter thereby.
