City TRIP
tokyo
Temples and shrines. Neon lights and crazy styles. In a few words, Tokyo's unique and contrasting mix can perhaps be best described in this way.
What is now Tokyo was Edo in the past and once the capital of Tokugawa-Shogunat. During the period of rule from 1603 to 1868, Edo grew into one of the largest cities in the world, today's Tokyo. Tokyo has no real centre. Each district is its own center with its own character. But in each of the well-known districts such as Shibuya, Ginza, Shinjuku and Akihabara there is still a touch of the old Edo.
And the traditions that were cultivated there can still be found in many corners, streets and quarters of this city. Often hidden behind glass, concrete and advertising signs, but always just a stone's throw away from the hustle and bustle of the hot spots.
Sometimes you think that loud and never-ending hustle and bustle will drive you crazy. But the old spirit of traditional Japan, which lives in so many beautiful places in this city, makes you pause and recharge your batteries. Power to shop, feast and marvel.
