Guggenheim Museum
In New York City there is a place that we visit every time we travel to the Big Apple: The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum or simply "The Guggenheim."
For us, one of the most beautiful museums in the world.
Founded in 1939, this museum for modern art is located on Fifth Avenue, between Central Park and the East River. The bizarre building of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright is often called "Cup of Concrete" because of its spiral-shaped rotunda, which is the main feature of the building and extends upwards like a snail shell.
Inside, a 400 meters long ramp was created, which leads from the ground floor to almost under the glass roof. The rotunda is open to the inside which offers unique views of the works of art on each floor.
A fun fact for those who queue up today – 3,000 people waited in line on October 21, 1959, to be the first to visit the Guggenheim Museum. But the visit is worthwhile alone because of the constantly changing exhibitions.
So for us, The Guggenheim is a "Cup of Concrete" from which we will drink again on our next New York City trip.
