1898 The Post
Hey you. Yes, you! Come over here. And shhh; not everyone has to know! Have you already got an accommodation in Ghent? No? Then listen to me!
How would you like to stay in a hotel that is full of history? Imagine rooms that envelop you in cosiness, with a view of the most beautiful side of the city. Not to mention the many in-house amenities.
What's the catch? There is no catch! Perhaps only that life is too short and you should treat yourself every now and then. So come on, treat yourself to a little time out at Hotel 1898 The Post. I'll tell you why...
1898 The Post is located in the centre of Ghent, surrounded by sights, restaurants, bars, chocolate factories and much more that makes up the bustling cityscape of Ghent. The exterior of the hotel attracts attention with its imposing presence. The architecture of the hotel, built in the late 19th century, is a testament to the splendour of the Belle Époque, characterised by meticulous ornamentation and attention to detail. The massive yet ornate construction defies time and invites visitors to linger and enjoy its timeless charm today as it did then.
Perhaps the most captivating aspect of Hotel 1898 The Post, however, is its rich history, which is woven into every corner, corridor, room and hallway. Originally serving as a post office in the late 19th century, the building has witnessed centuries of changes and remodelling. To this day, not only the name of the hotel bears witness to this, but also countless post office antiques. The hotel's decorated walls are also true contemporary witnesses and bring the past back to life for guests. From its role as a meeting place for local celebrities to its historic past as a refuge for travellers in times of war.
But listen. This is just the beginning. The hotel's rooms and suites are also worth a trip (back in time). How is that, you ask? Well, because each room is a little hideaway where style and comfort come together and carefully selected decoration adds the finishing touches. Their names were given in memory of the history of the house: for example ‘The Stamp’, ‘The Envelope’ or ‘The Postcard’. In this way, the owners honour the history. Sounds great, doesn't it?
And as if that wasn't enough, you can round off your day in the hotel's own bar called ‘The Cobbler’. The bar is located on the 1st floor and the view from the windows reveals a magnificent view of the historic city centre and the passing boats on the river. In ‘The Cobbler’ you feel like you've been transported back in time. The interior reflects the charm of a classic film set: old wooden floors, high ceilings, lots of comfortable chairs, bookshelves, antique objects everywhere and, as a central element, a large fireplace in front of which you can sip your cocktail in comfort...
What do you think? Does it sound good or does it sound good?
